If your loved one has passed away at home you will need to inform the doctor who will then attend as soon as possible to certify the death.
If they have passed away at a care home the staff will inform the doctor or qualified nurse on your behalf and certify the death.
Once the Doctor or qualified nurse certify death you must contact your preferred Funeral Directors to bring your loved one into their care.
The GP will issue a death certificate in the coming days and may send it direct to registrars or you will have to pick it up and take to the Registrars yourselves.
If the death occurs in hospital, the staff or Bereavement office will be able to help and assist you, They will issue you with the death certificate which you will need to take to the relevant registrars office.
If further investigation into the death is needed, the death may need to be referred to the coroner. This could mean that a post-mortem or an inquest may be necessary.
If a death is sudden or unexpected, you will need to call the emergency services. Once the death has been confirmed by a medical professional, the police will be in attendance(if not already) and act as a liaison.
The police will then contact your preferred Funeral Directors who will then take your loved ones to the required hospital on behalf of the Coroner.
